Why do people love Pilates?
What’s not to love about Pilates? People love that it is a gentle, yet effective, form of exercise that helps to build core strength, improve posture, gain flexibility, and produce better balance in the body. It’s a great well-rounded workout that people find enjoyable, helpful, and most importantly, fun!
Is Pilates a safe form of exercise?
Pilates is a completely safe form of exercise! An incredible thing about Pilates is that the exercises are completely modifiable to best suit an individual depending on their age, weight, ability, and experience. I have worked with clients ranging from 25 to 87, and they all were safe and comfortable while getting a great workout in!
does Pilates offer a cardio component?
It absolutely can! You can increase the cardio aspect of your workout by attaching a jumpboard or cardio trampoline to the end of the reformer.
what is a reformer and what does it do?
The reformer machine is a piece of versatile equipment used in Pilates to add resistance to traditional Pilates exercises in ways that will activate and strengthen your muscles—thus maximizing stability, balance, and flexibility. It has a bed-like frame One of the best parts of the reformer is the sheer variety it presents, allowing for a range of exercises to be available to everyone from beginner to advanced.
What is the difference between the classes you offer?
I offer different classes that cater to different needs. One-on-One allow for a personalized experience with no distractions. Duets (two-person classes) make for an affordable and fun workout with a partner that still allows for personalized attention and workouts for each client. Weightlifting courses present an added health benefit for clients who are looking to get toned and gain some extra strength. Chair Pilates presents an opportunity for my clients who can’t get down onto the floor, but still want to work out and get stronger. Mat Pilates emphasizes some of the core principles of Pilates and can be taken as a nice compliment to the reformer sessions. For more specific information about each class, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
why should i do Pilates in a studio vs a gym?
Most gyms are expensive, and the quality of instruction can vary wildly. Doing Pilates in a home studio will give you the personalized attention and care that you deserve. With this attentive environment, I’m able to train and assist you in ways that are difficult to achieve in a group gym setting.
how often should I do pilates?
Pilates is a safe, low-impact, and effective way to exercise every day! However, most clients start out with two to three times a week until they are more comfortable with the exercises, moves, breathwork, and muscle focus.
what type of equipment do you have in your studio?
In training, we use our own body weight for several exercises but will frequently use additional equipment. My studio has 2 STOTT Pilates reformers, as well as an assortment of smaller equipment such as a cardio trampoline, weights, bands, fitness circles, weighted bars, toning balls, and more!
how many people can you train at once?
I limit the number of clients I train in the studio to two at a time to create a more intimate and comfortable atmosphere that allows me to provide the utmost attention to your training experience. When training virtually, I can work with up to 10 clients at a time!
Where did you study and what is your background?
I studied STOTT Pilates—a contemporary approach to the Pilates method that utilizes modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation— at Equilibrium Pilates Studio in Bloomfield Hills, MI, and received my training and certification in May of 2010. Since then, I’ve been teaching, taking workshops, and continually seeking out new opportunities for learning and professional growth to help myself and those I teach.
Before that, I studied exercise science in college which eventually led me to Pilates—my true passion.
